Low cost Posturography

Subject

Posturography - the clinical assessment of balance of humans - is normally limited to well equipped movement analysis laboratories, as high end equipment is required.
However, with the advent of low cost devices as the wii balance board, researchers have tried to quantify human balance by means of such cheap portable devices. The most simple measures from the high end posturography have been validated on the wii balance board as well. However, for the more advanced features, validation is lacking.

The purpose of this thesis is to develop a Python toolbox for posturography, Incorporating the existing algorithms and adding methods for improving signal quality, allowing for the exploration of frequency domain features.

Kind of work

The thesis work consists of the following steps:
- Literature study to investigate the currently existing approaches for low cost balance assessment, focusing on studies on Wii Balance Board.
- Implementation of the chosen algorithm(s).
- Experimental validation compared to force plates.
- Writing of the thesis.

The posturography methods will be developed in Python
