Multiband Polarization Imaging by Prof Yongqiang Zhao

Prof Yong-Qiang Zhao - School of Automation, Northwestern Polytechnical University

Prof Yongqiang Zhao from Northwestern Polytechnical University is going to give a seminar on important development of multi-spectral and multi-angle polarization imaging. He is a renowned expert in polarization imaging and has authored a book with Springer’s Advances in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Series (2016), entitled: Multi-band Polarization Imaging and Applications.

Abstract: Multiband polarization imaging is an emerging sensing method that enables simultaneous acquisition of multiband spectral and multiangle polarization information of an object of interest in the scene. Spectral signatures of the light reflected from a target reveal the characteristics of the material composing the target while polarized light provides useful information on the surface features such as light scattering and specular reflection. Multiband polarization imaging has demonstrated a potential in the recognition of targets in challenging operating environments such as low-contrast and hazy conditions. This talk presents the concept and recent advances of multiband polarization imaging techniques, in particular, a bioinspired multiband polarization vision system.

Short CV

Yong-Qiang Zhao received the Ph.D. degree in control science and engineering from Northwestern Polytechnic University, Xian, China, in 2004. From 2007 to 2009, he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher at McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada, and Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA. He is currently a Professor in School of Automation, Northwestern Polytechnical University. His research interests include polarization vision, hyperspectral imaging, image processing, and pattern recognition. He is the associate editor of IEEE Access.
