Project description

Objectives of the Image Processing Systems research community
* the enhancement of the quality of the research on image processing systems, conducted in the Flemish research institutes, through the fusion of the present expert knowledge
* the broadening of the contacts with foreign experts, resulting in new opportunities for international cooperation
* the search for challenging technical and scientific topics, in the broad field of image processing, related to the available knowledge and know-how, but exceeding the research potential of the individual groups.

Means of the Image Processing Systems research community for the realisation of its objectives.

Activities which proved to be successful will be continued, in a form, based on the acquired experience:
* the creation of information channels, which are not limited to the members of the research community:
- via Internet: creation and support of web pages containing information on image processing related topics, issued by the individual members as well as information provided by the entire research community (reports, documentation, event announcements...)
- through the announcement of important events, via electronic mail to the research community members or well-chosen specialised mailing lists
- through the availability of printed information (e.g. brochures) which can be handed out during meetings
* the organisation of scientific-technical meetings where specialists are invited to discuss a specific subject in image processing and where the audience has the opportunity to exchange ideas these meetings are addressed to the Image Processing Systems research community in the first
place, but this does not exclude the possibility to invite a broader audience, interested in the subject we are planning to invite mainly top level experts in specific domains the purpose is to stimulate an in-depth discussion on the research of the scientists of the research community and to introduce in the research groups new research themes, which may be useful for the entire research community.
Besides this, more attention will be paid to bilateral initiatives of the exchange of research collaborators. Scientists will have the opportunity to visit the groups that participate to the network during a short time,
to transfer or acquire tools and know-how that can be applied in image processing
The existing relations with groups and organisations which are useful to the operations of our research community (IEEE Benelux Chapter on Signal Processing, DSP Valley, KVIV Biomedisch Genootschap) or other research communities, working on compementary themes (e.g.: WOG PACT) will also be strengthened.
A new activity that is considered consists of sending a delegate of the research community to important and non-specialised meetings, with a specific mission, e.g. handing out information of the research community this delegate will also report on his visit to the research community.
