A sensor system for the objective detection of early care needs in independently living older adults in homecare

Project description

This feasibility study between VUB (RERE and ETRO) and Wit Gele Kruis aims to develop a cost-effective and minimally invasive sensor system to support home-care nurses in assessing the care needs of older adults living independently. The objective of this feasibility study is to establish a set of specific requirements that the overall sensor system must satisfy to ensure the feasibility of the project and to explore the current state of practice (“as-is” situation). Objectives and Criteria The study aims to gain further insight into: - which parameters need to be measured in order to assess care needs effectively; - which types of sensors, and combinations of sensors, can be used to measure these parameters; - the applicability of the proposed solution in daily life, taking into account criteria such as usability, user acceptance, and cost; - the applicability of the selected sensors with regard to data acquisition and signal-processing requirements.
