Abstract

Terahertz wave radiation is defined as the farinfrared electromagnetic radiation between 0.1 and 10 THz. In recent years, renewed interest has come in three dimensional imaging, using the transparency property of most non-metal objects in the sub-THz range. Given the high amount of information available in the THz image, appropriate signal and image processing are of uttermost importance. The contribution of this paper will focus on presenting the chain from THz signal generation, detection, and processing to extraction of internal information from 3-D objects. Three stages are important in this process: the implementation of three THz frequencies for the signal generation and detection: 100GHz, 300GHz, and 850GHz, the use of a focused set-up as well as a synthetic aperture set-up, and finally the demonstration of a 3- D image processing methodology for feature extraction.
