Commissioning is the task of configuring devices and networks to achieve the specific needs of a wireless automation system. This paper describes the experiences and commissioning design challenges encountered when migrating and upgrading a legacy wireless technology for remote control of window shutters to a production ready ZigBee Home and Building automation system. In the nascent and continuously evolving domotics market, economical and logistical considerations usually require migrating currently existing consumer products instead of opting for redesign from scratch. Patents, infrastructure, and market practices on legacy remote control systems for building and house ambient control such as HVAC systems, lighting, window blinds, and more put non-trivial design and commissioning constraints to a new domotics system based on ZigBee.
