Abstract

Direct-conversion RX and TX chips for 60GHz wireless communication are presented. They each implement 4-antenna path analog baseband beamforming. At 1.1V the 6mm2 TX IC and the 6.5mm2 RX IC, which are designed in 40nm LP CMOS, consume 584mW and 400mW, respectively. Combined with antenna arrays on a PCB, a wireless TRX link with QPSK and QAM16 modulated data with ¾ LDPC coding rate obtains a range of more than 3.5m and 0.6m, respectively.
