Abstract 

A multimode multirate 2-1 cascade {\"A}{\'O} ADC achieves a dynamic range of 66/77/85dB for UMTS/Bluetooth/GSM with 6.8/3.7/3.4mW. An optimal power/performance trade-off is obtained by relaxing the sampling speed of the 1st stage and appropriately increasing that of the 2nd stage. Implemented in 1.2V 90nm CMOS with an area of 0.076mm2, the energy per conversion-step is 1.7/1.4/6.6pJ.
