Abstract

This paper describes the work in progress on a combinational demonstrator network for noise pollution monitoring. The network will evaluate the noise pollution in a given area based on two types of measurement devices. Primary data will be collected from a few high quality static and costly measurement stations, and secondary data will be extracted from an autonomous wireless sensor network comprised of cheaper and lower quality mobile microphones. The data are then combined to form a uniform detailed sound map of the area. To test the performance of this method, a demonstrator network is being developed for monitoring noise pollution in select areas of Brussels. This paper describes the specifications of this network and the developed hardware.
