Unravelling Textile Reinforced Cementitious composites by means of multi-modal sensing techniques

Nicolas Ospitia Patino is a civil engineer from the University of the Andes (Bogota, Colombia), with masters in Structural and Construction Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Barcelona, Spain). He joined the ETRO in September of 2019 as a PhD student in collaboration with MeMC  (VUB Department of Mechanics of Materials and Constructions), his thesis topic is focused on multi-modal non-destructive characterization and monitoring of TRC sandwich composites through its service life. The main non-destructive techniques with which he’s working, include electromagnetic based techniques (free-space NDTs in the microwave and millimetre wave range), ultrasound, acoustic emission, and digital image correlation. In addition to his research, he’s had the chance of assisting in teaching master courses, supervision of master theses, science communication.
