Project description 

The goal of the project is to develop a new, hand-held landmine detector using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technique to be able to localize and discriminate such targets. The approach taken is to employ a Pseudo Random Noise radar system. A known digital noise stream is transmitted and the scattered radiation passed to a correlator. The output of the correlator indicates the presence of coherent returned signals. The developed system consists of a GPR linear array, with high resolution array processing techniques for 3-dimensional quantitative imaging of the objects buried in the soil. The project involves aspects of electromagnetic field theory, antenna theory and antenna design, numerical and mathematical analysis, and array signal processing.
