In this project two research groups of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the VUB, namely the department of Applied Physics and Photonics (TONA) the Laboratory for Micro-and Opto-electronics (LAMI), present the fundamental and applied research topics which they will continue to explore during the next five years, as will as the novel hot topics which they will embrace, all situated in the exciting and multidisciplinary field of micro-photonics. Through joint efforts and in strong collaboration with strategic national and international top-research groups, they target to push the frontiers of their ongoing research and to accomplish breakthroughs in as-yet unexplored micro-photonics territory.
The project, which will encompasses several micro-photonic topics, is structured in five workpackages: Technologies for micro-optical components, Short distance micro-photonic interconnects, Micro-lasers and laser dynamics, Micro-photonics in sensing and in nuclear environments, and Mid an Far Infra-red micro-photonics and istrumentation.
