moveUP is a digital health start-up that offers a personalised rehabilitation track/journey to patients with indication for a hip or joint arthroplasty due to arthritis. There is a strong need to improve standard of care, as currently 20-30% are dissatisfied after the surgery. Chronic pain is a big issue, with close to 20% of patient still taking pain medication one year after surgery.brmoveUP has developed a digital coach and monitoring tool, that manages the patients’ expectations, fears and beliefs before, during and after the surgery. More than 400 data points are captured per patient, enabling to have a full view on their medical profile, physical activities (level and type), psycho-social profile, expectations, etc. These data are collected in a structured way via 1) an activity tracker worn on the wrist and 2) questionnaires on a mobile app. Currently these data are processed and validated by specialised physical therapists and surgeons based on an offline rehabilitation protocol. brThe ambition of this project is to advance the moveUP’s platform by improving the process of patient follow-up, according to 2 axes: br• Axis 1: Identification / Classification: Objectify the functional state of patients, by increasing the accuracy, reproducibility and completeness of data via models that can capture: 1) gait analysis and quality of movement with camera and sensors and 2) X-Rays & MRI to objectify the severity of the arthritis.br• Axis 2: from Expert driven to Data driven: Based on the new functional assessment and the existing 400 data points, a fully personalised treatment (exercises, activities, steps, medication, coaching, ..) can be proposed to the patient from day one (prescriptive medicine). An “expert” approach is not possible anymore with such large quantities of data, hence the need for machine learning models to build such personalised treatments. Based on the collected data, predictive medicine can be applied, assessing expected satisfaction, medication usage, pickup of activities, and duration of the recovery. We will also investigate possibilities for eligibility for surgery. Here the assessment of the prediction models (how to handle false positive and negative) will be of crucial importance.brBy completing and implementing the results of this project, patients will have access to the best care for their specific condition, a care path that prevents complication and maximizes outcome and satisfaction. Health Care Providers (HCP) will have a tool that enables them to manage the vast quantity of data collected allowing more precise care and at the same time providing higher efficiency.br
